Inside Asiedua’s chest: 48 and still single

Image
Single at 48 – I can’t believe it! This isn’t something any woman would wish for but here I am clocking 50 in two years’ time and I can’t even boast of a boyfriend! I have been single for several years now. It was a plan at the beginning to focus on my career but it became a problem at some point. I always told friends and relatives who advised that I got married that the right man would find me no matter my age. But it hasn’t been that easy. The brave face is only for them to see but the loneliness is the reality that I deal with daily. There have been times when I have stayed indoors and wept. It gets worse on my birthday each year, and days like Valentine’s. When I put on my radio and all that I hear is talk about love, when I switch on the television, all that is shown are various commercials telling people’s successful love stories. But how did I get here…hmm! It’s a long story. Like any other teenager I had a dream. My dream was to study hard and become one of the ...

Inside Asiedua’s chest: I refused to forgive; now she is gone

Image
I thought of her as the worst mum in the world. I despised her; did not want to hear anything about her. The only time I called her mum was when she was gone. And now, I wish I had another chance with her. “Will you please hear me out, I love you and I’m sorry for denying you that love all these years,” she cried out. I could feel how sorry she was but as to why I still held on to the anger, I am yet to understand. That voice should have told me she was calling me from a sick bed – I thought she was doing it all to get back into my life. My ‘hello,’ filled with so much hatred and anger, is still fresh on my mind. My mother was not part of my childhood and life was really hard at some point without her. I grew up thinking about my father as one of the best in the world. He did not talk much about my mother and his reaction whenever any of his siblings mentioned my mum raised some questions. I was told my mother had travelled. And that was exactly what I wrote in my essays...

Promised, failed and sacked but you survived; make 2016 count!

Image
I guess by now most of us have read, heard and know what promises have done to someone. He promised, could not deliver and has been fired, disguised as resigning. We made promises, failed to deliver, but we survived. We might not be lucky in 2017. All glory to God. He has been good; He led us into 2016 safely. Before dawn today most of us went to church thank God for bringing us to the end of 2015 and to pray over our New Year resolutions and make all sorts of promises to ourselves and God. The clocks ticked and before we knew it, 2015 was gone; 2016 is here but what next? Is it just about making promises? Isn’t it amazing how we are eager to make so many promises on New Year’s Eve but find it very difficult to deliver on them? If we all will be truthful to ourselves, we would admit that we have been unable to accomplish most of the promises we make whenever we welcome a new year. But have we thought of what acco...

Inside Asiedua’s chest: Joy FM’s ‘skinniest four’

Image
So what is this whole fuss about weight? Where from the notion in Africa, especially in Ghana, that all skinny people probably have problems or have bad eating habits and why do people believe that others become fat or gain weight when they have no worries? hmm! Of course some people lose weight due to broken hearts or bad eating habits and some get pot bellies once they start to make some money. But, it does not cut across. Does it? It gets frustrating sometimes when people see ‘skinny’ people and ask all sorts of questions like are you okay? Do you eat at all? Is anyone bothering you? I mean it’s sometimes annoying! And oh, the questions about flat tummies: Where is your stomach? Really, do people actually expect size six ladies to have pot bellies? hahahah. Beatrice Abena Adu, an Anchorwoman at Joy FM is strikingly slim. She is a proud size six and her deft flare for style makes her turn heads all the time. Her level of fluency and command over the E...

Inside Asiedua’s chest: From Adom FM to myjoyonline.com: The untold story

Image
Yes I’m the newbie at Myjoyonline.com. I joined the team this month. Trust me, there is a lot to learn. You have to get better or die trying. After finishing my national service with Adom FM, I was extremely lucky to be considered by Myjoyonline.com. I must confess, it’s a blessing to be able to work in two media units under 2 years at the Multimedia Group Limited. Count your blessings one by one they say. So that’s what you are going to read in this article: counting my blessings starting with 12 months at Adom FM. I miss the Editorial meetings led by Afia Pokua (Vim Lady) and the affable Samuel Dowuona. The discussions here can be intense and rigorous and riddled with laughter too. Colleagues there were always ready to assist me with everything at every time. After the many depressing tales from friends doing their National Service in the public sector, my great hope was to be useful in a private sector organisation. You don’t want your employment to need the appro...
