Inside Asiedua’s chest- My divorce a day after my wedding day Pt. 2

Image
Although I loved Jo so much, I had to let him go. He was the man I was going to live with for the rest of my life and I couldn’t live doubting him forever. Honestly, trusting him again was going to be very difficult. I do not regret divorcing him. Maybe what happened was bound to happen for them to find their ways back to each other. The post-divorce trauma was not easy to get over. My life was halted for about a year because of what happened. The 24/7 attention the family gave me was just unbearable; they monitored my every move as they feared I could hurt myself. I wanted to get away from everything to heal completely. I went to spend some time with my auntie and her family in London. I hated to hear Joojo’s name and anything that had to do with him or marriage. Why me? A day never passed without me asking myself this question. It was just too hard to forget everything like that and move on. I barely spoke to anyone in my auntie’s house. A psychologist was hired but I refuse...

Why I broke up with Asiedua to marry Gloria

Life is a simple step. I know you all can attest to the fact that when a man finds a beautiful woman, and I mean a BEAUTIFUL woman walking gracefully and exuding a confident serenity with tenderness of a calf and innocence of a primary school girl, the temptation is to hold your breath and walk up to her. That was exactly what I did. That was how I met Asiedua. A very pretty young lady with all the trappings of a cosmopolitan, enlightened lady and promises to love a man for who he is, twisting her small waist and lighting up the studio with those smiles, she was the perfect choice for me. Her dressing, oh God, she dressed to kill. Her tantalizingly provocative boobs caught the eye of everyone; her lips brightened with red lipstick and those big eyes laid in the socket humbly and peacefully. Yes, in the beginning, she showed the signs of a true lover, she would call me several times in a day just to say, “Hi baby, was wondering how your voice sounds li...

Inside Asiedua’s Chest – My divorce a day after my wedding day

Image
Yes I am seeking divorce already! We met about a year ago at a friend’s birthday party. We started off by exchanging numbers then became friends few weeks after we met. On a dinner date one cozy night, Joojo Bentil asked me to be his wife. I laughed very loud. Then I said to him, “But you barely know even my name, and I do not know if your name is what you say it is.” “I see in you all the qualities of the perfect wife I have been praying to meet,” he said with conviction and an obviously lump in his throat. He swallowed hard. I smiled. Then he asked “will you be in a relationship with me, please”? This time, I didn’t think twice, I just said yes. You know why? I had waited too long for that. You have no idea the things I imagined when he refused to let go of my hands after the introduction. Do you remember the things you did in the first two months of your relationship? Ours was awesome; we spent so much time together and a talked on phone the little time we were not toget...

Inside Asiedua’s Chest - Meet my new friends

Image
I think my Mayor and Excellency friends may have good intentions about our dear country but I still don’t know why they cannot deliver. They had all the power to save those poor explosion victims but they did not use it. This country suffers floods every year. People die every year and yet nothing is done about it. 20 year old Freda Serwaa, who was said to be rushing to go write her examination and about four other people lost their lives on Monday, June 2 when parts of the capital were flooded as a result of a heavy downpour which started at about 4.30 am. Various roads have been rendered impassable. Untarred roads are the most affected but some tarred roads were also flooded on the shoulders. Busy roads like the Mallam Junction intersections of the N1 Highway, Darkuman Junction, Kaneshie First Light, Nima Junction, Danquah Circle, Dworwulu Junction and the Paloma corridor of the Ring Road among others became simply immotorable after several hours of rains. The floods carried...

I know who the arsonists are

After the killing of Chalie Hebdo journalists in France, I heard many Ghanaian journalists ask: what have we learned from these killings? My answer was simple. Nothing! How secure are our media houses? I could only answer this one with a question: is the country itself secure? I gave these answers because, as a country we have failed countless times to learn from our own mistakes. How are we expected to learn from the mistakes others? Infallibility is part of human nature. We make mistakes sometimes but the good part is that we learn from them and move on. But that is not so in the case with Ghana. Ghana turns 58 this year and she would have been preparing to go on retirement if she was a human being. But what do we see?  She rather keeps retrogressing instead of progressing. How then can she retire? What will her children (Ghanaians) eat if she retires? What advice will she give to her children? Ghana doesn’t seem to learn from her past mistakes and I think th...

Inside Asiedua’s chest - I hate my mother

Image
Yes I do, and before you chastise me and bombard me with insults, hear why I hate my mother. She did some good things but I still hate her for those things she did to me. She would rush from her office to my school anytime I got sick at school. I don’t remember ever going to school without food in my lunch box. She always made sure I had my inhaler in my school bag. She organized parties for me on my birthday each year. Each time I refused to eat before bed, she would make sure there was some ‘koko’ (porridge), bread or biscuits in the house. How can I ever forget the hug she gave me each time I run back to her after fighting with my friends and how she could fan me till I fell asleep each time the lights went off. I spent most of my time with her, the only time I had with my dad was the time we spent together in his car to and from school. My dad also took me out on weekends when he returned from his business trips but I realized that I couldn’t open up to him like I did with ...

Inside Asiedua’s Chest – My Father Owns It All, Not Me – Part 2

Image
When I read the first part of this article online, I was disappointed in my ‘sister’ for not telling me she was going to share our whole life online. But on a second thought I forgave her because I knew she did it to help others who still think like I used to. I thought of supporting her good course by scripting the second part. It was our last year and last semester and I had chosen to do a free elective that semester so I had to attend a lecture that morning. Not long after I left did I call Asiedua. My mother, whose birthday was coming up that weekend, was returning from a business trip that morning. We were still planning her surprise party and my father was supposed to pick her up from the Airport that morning. “Asiedua”! – I called out her name in a soft shaky voice when she said hello. “Offy what’s up – what is it – is everything okay”? She asked as she sensed some kind of fright in my voice. “I’m at Korle Bu. Can you call your parents please”? I replied. “Is ever...
